Gardenia Yellow Pigment: Features and Applications in Food Industry
Gardenia, with a long cultivation history in China, is a common plant used in daily life for brewing tea and marinating meat. As one of the first batch of food and medicine dual-use new food materials approved by the state, Gardenia is versatile for extracting food colorants and can also be used as a natural dye in the garment industry. Today, we introduce Gardenia Yellow Pigment, a widely used food-grade colorant in China and neighboring countries.
Features of Gardenia Yellow Pigment
Gardenia Yellow Pigment is made from the dried fruit of Rubiaceae plants, extracted and refined to produce a yellow to orange-red liquid, paste, or yellow to orange-red powder with a unique scent of Gardenia. It is easily soluble in water but not soluble in oils. The main color components are crocin and crocetin, which are rare water-soluble carotenoids that are easily absorbed by the human body. Gardenia Yellow Pigment is characterized by its good resistance to reduction, excellent resistance to microorganisms, light and heat stability, strong coloring power, and stability to metal ions. It also has good dyeing effects on starch and protein.
